South Burlington City Council Appoints New Councilor

Larry Kupferman will serve until Town Meeting Day 2024

SOUTH BURLINGTON – Queen City Park resident Larry Kupferman will serve as South Burlington's newest City Councilor, filling the vacancy left by Tyler Barnes. Mr. Kupferman was appointed by the South Burlington City Council during its October 30, 2023 meeting, and will serve until Town Meeting Day 2024. On Town Meeting Day, the voters will select a candidate to complete the remaining year of Mr. Barnes’ term.

In his statement of interest to the Council, Mr. Kupferman noted his roles in both affordable housing and conservation efforts in the City. He has served on the City's Natural Resources & Conservation Committee, is chair of the Housing Trust Fund, and treasurer for the Sara Holbrook Community Center.

Mr. Kupferman's previous experience includes Coordinator for the Local Disaster Shelter Initiative, Vermont & the New Hampshire Upper Valley American Red Cross, and director of Burlington's Community and Economic Development Office. In 2011, he was recognized by City Market Onion River Co-op with a Community Service Award for his contributions to the Burlington community.

“We were honored to receive ten statements of interest in serving on the City Council,” said City Manager Jessie Baker. “We look forward to working with Councilor Kupferman in this new capacity as we consider the City Plan 2024 and the FY25 municipal budget.”
